Abstract

The study investigated the challenges facing technological entrepreneurial activities (TEA) among university students in South-western Nigeria, with a view to providing information that will assist the formulation of appropriate policies and encourage the growth and development of technological entrepreneurial activities among university students. Multistage sampling technique was used for the study. Ten universities were proportionately selected among federal, state and private universities in the study areas. Three science-based faculties were purposively selected from each university. Two departments were randomly selected from each faculty and twenty-five students were randomly selected from each department making a total of 1,500 respondents. A set of questionnaires containing structured and semi-structured questions was used to elicit relevant information. The data obtained were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the challenges facing TEA among university students in Southwestern Nigeria are: lack of fund, poor infrastructural facilities, lack of raw materials, government policy, lack of technical knowledge, social obligation, securing patent, and establishing linkages. The study concluded that provision of funds, adequate infrastructural facilities and access to raw materials are germane to encouraging the development and growth of technological entrepreneurial activities among university students in Southwestern Nigeria.
